Endocrine therapy can affect many different systems in your body — from metabolism and the nervous system to sleep, joints, bones, and recovery. Sleep problems, joint pain, weight changes, fatigue, dry skin and mucous membranes, or simply the feeling that your body is no longer quite your own are all common experiences. Yet they often receive far too little attention in everyday cancer care.
And not all endocrine therapies are the same. Tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors work differently and come with different side effects and long-term considerations. If ovarian suppression with a GnRH agonist is part of your treatment, this adds another layer. I take all of this into account when supporting you.
There are many ways to support your body during this time — safely, based on current evidence, and alongside your cancer treatment. That is why I developed this program: to help you manage side effects, feel better during treatment, and protect your health over the years ahead.

This program is for women who are about to start endocrine therapy or are already receiving treatment and who:
Ideally, we start around the time you begin endocrine therapy, so we can address potential side effects early on. But it is never too late to start. You may already have been on treatment for some time and now feel that you need more support.
Some changes develop gradually — dry skin and mucous membranes, for example — and may not immediately be linked to endocrine therapy. Starting early gives us the opportunity to address both what you are experiencing now and what may become important over the years ahead.
Estrogen affects far more than breast tissue. Estrogen receptors and estrogen-dependent signaling pathways are found throughout the body and play a role in bone and muscle health, joints, the brain and thermoregulation, mucous membranes, and metabolism.
Different types of endocrine therapy affect these pathways in different ways. Aromatase inhibitors reduce estrogen production, GnRH agonists suppress ovarian estrogen production in premenopausal women, while tamoxifen acts on estrogen receptors, with effects that vary depending on the tissue. This is why side effects and long-term risks can differ considerably between treatments.
Many women feel at the mercy of their symptoms. I want you to understand why certain symptoms occur, what may be driving them, what you can influence — and where the limits are. Understanding what is happening in your body can reduce uncertainty and help you feel more in control.
Endocrine therapy can affect body composition, muscle mass, fat distribution, and metabolism. Together, we look at how adequate protein, a diet that supports stable blood sugar and helps regulate inflammation, and regular exercise can help you maintain muscle mass and support a healthy weight over the long term — without rigid rules or extreme diets.
Joint and bone health are an important part of the program. We look at why joint pain is so common with aromatase inhibitors, the role of muscles and inflammation, and why maintaining and building muscle matters. We also focus on the exercise, strength training, and nutrients your bones and joints need. This is not about performance — it is about keeping your body strong and resilient over the long term.
Sleep problems during endocrine therapy are not simply “in your head”. Hot flashes, hormonal changes, pain, stress, and disrupted sleep patterns can all play a part. We use individually tailored strategies to support better sleep and regulate stress. The goal: more restful sleep, better recovery, and more energy during the day.
At the end of three months, I do not want you to leave with a perfect plan that ends up sitting in a drawer. I want you to have realistic routines that fit your life and that you can actually maintain. That is often what makes the biggest difference.
The program includes:
If you live in Berlin, the program includes three appointments at my practice, two online sessions, and an Ayurvedic massage. If you live elsewhere, the entire program can also be completed online. We adapt the assessments accordingly, and any necessary blood tests can usually be arranged locally through a doctor’s office or complementary medicine practice.
Instead of the massage, you will receive an additional online session, so the online program still includes six appointments in total.
My recommendations always take into account the specific endocrine therapy you are receiving, as well as any other medications you take. I carefully check for possible interactions and contraindications to make sure that complementary support works safely alongside your cancer treatment — never against it.
My work is designed to complement your gynecological and oncology care, never to replace it. We discuss any laboratory testing beforehand: I recommend the tests I consider most relevant, while additional testing remains optional. I also do not recommend supplements across the board — nutrition and lifestyle remain an important part of the program.

When I started the program, I had actually already resigned myself to the idea that joint pain, weight gain, and poor sleep were simply the price of endocrine therapy. I definitely did not want to stop taking it, but I also could not imagine living with these symptoms for five or even ten years. With Carmen, it was never about questioning the therapy — it was about looking very concretely at: What is causing me problems? Where might the causes lie? What can we check, and what can I change myself?
We changed my diet, looked at my lab values, and I started doing targeted strength training again. A lot of it was not huge changes, but things I could actually build into my everyday life. Today my joint pain is much better, I am sleeping better again, and my weight has stabilized. But most important to me is this: I no longer feel at the mercy of my endocrine therapy.
I am not even quite at the end of the program yet, and so much has already changed. I no longer have hot flashes, my digestion is much better, and overall I am more balanced and positive. I am very grateful to Carmen for her support and would not have thought you could influence so much yourself.
What I especially like about “Safe & Stable” is that it is not a one-size-fits-all program. Carmen looks very closely: What symptoms do I actually have? What do my lab values show? What fits my treatment, and what can I realistically build into my everyday life? Through this, I have learned a lot about my body and my endocrine therapy and now know much better which levers I can adjust myself. That gives me a sense of security — and I no longer feel so alone with the therapy.
To be honest, I was skeptical at first. I had already read so many tips — move more, eat healthy, less stress... yeah, thanks, I knew all that already. But with Carmen it was different, because we really looked at what was actually going on with me. And suddenly the recommendations were actually doable, too. My hot flashes are much less frequent, my joints are not constantly acting up anymore, and overall I feel more at home in my body again. Thank you, Carmen!
My joint pain has improved significantly, and today I know what I can do myself if it gets worse again. For that alone, the program was worth it for me!
